Food for a Cause...

Each week, many crates of fresh produce are thrown away or made into compost because they will otherwise go bad. For almost a year now, rather than throwing this produce away, high school students have been collecting this fresh produce and delivering it to underprivileged families, living in transitional living centers.

Our program, Farm to Family, will arrange to have two teenage volunteers go to a local farmers market and spend about 30 minutes collecting and loading fruit and vegetables into their car, and then approximately 30 minutes of driving to deliver this fresh, organic food to an organization that helps needy families. Each time a teen participates, they are providing 50 - 100 underprivileged people with a weeks worth of fresh, organic food. People working to combat homelessness are very excited about our program, suggesting it will help fight malnutrition amongst our city's poorest families, and encourage healthier eating habits.

Our success now requires us to expand this program to include more volunteers, markets, and shelters. We are hoping you would like to collaborate with us on this project because Farm to Family:

  • Provides immediate relief to hungry families in Los Angeles
  • Fulfills your community service requirements
  • Requires very little time each week you participate
  • Helps fight malnutrition in homeless families

If you have any questions, contact us at Julia@farmtofamily.org or Sarah@farmtofamily.org, or at (310) 470 3350. Please let us know what area you live in, and if you are interested in participating. We look forward to hearing from you.
